I plan to do a bunch of different campaigns for my African country, Membesia, 1970s or 1980s when the people overthrow the corrupt government, drug wars of the 1990s, and modern US/Brits taking out the government and or drug lords, and some Russian influence. The Russian guys will probably be kind of military type contractors and run by the mafia .

So far some ideas for my armies...

Drug Lord's Army:

4 squads of 5 men with AK-47s, 2 with RPGs, and 1 with either an RPD or RPK
Mortar crew, HMG...and a heavy AA gun for ground use.
Drug lord and guard of 4 or 5 men.
Technicals with AA guns and various machine guns
Trucks for transport US trucks
An old T-55, Zil 157, maybe a PT-76. Daimler Armored car

Rebel Army/Armed and Angry Civilians(civilians defending their land from the drug lord who wants it)
At least 20-30 figs with Ak47s, SKSs and G-3s, about 5 figs with RPKs, and 5 with RPGs.
Technicals, armored tractor.

Government Army
US M3 halftracks for early conflicts, M113s later on...BTR-152s too...?
Chaffees and T-55s
Humber armored car.
US Jeeps, and trucks...
Government troops at least 25-30 guys a platoon....thinking about a plain Reflective Green uniform.
1 platoon of regular army in M-1 helmets with SLRs and GPMGs
1 platoon of "special" forces/police type guys, with SLRs and GPMGs in Berets (possibly blue berets?) Special forces will have some Saracens and a Saladin.

Russian Mafia influenced special unit
(trying to intercept the US special forces and all else in the way so they can have their hands in the drug trade)
2 or 3 BMP-2s and a T-72
Still deciding on how many guys...and what type to use...probably 1990s Ultra Modern Russians from Liberation.
Probably a platoon or so, 3 small squads with support.

US special forces
Going to be an extremely small unit, with helicopter transport most likely.
Liberation/Britannia special forces ranges...

Also wondering if anyone makes 1/72nd scale cargo ships???

I have a few vehicles already, some M3 half tracks and some US trucks and a Daimler with more stuff on the way.

Any thoughts or ideas guys?

regards,

Brad :)

That sounds really good!

On the thoughts front:
* Drug lord looks fine. Possibly use some of the urban terrorists to give it that slightly criminal feel?

* The rebels/angry civillains arey pretty heavily equipped with 5x GPMG & 5x RPG for only 20-30 'irregular' figures. I'd probably say to increase the force size to 30-50 as that seems a little more reasonable for the firepower they'd be packing

*I like the government force breakdown, as well as the idea of having some sort of paramilitary police/Gendarmarie/etc as the 'special forces'. You could also give these guys cammo jackets to make them look slightly more proffessional (leave the trousers in the same shade as the other guys to give a visual connection?). Another option could be using Lieration modern cubans, with their peaked caps?

*Russians - again, sounds fine. As these guys are sort of mercenaries, I'd have thought a farly high level of SAW/LAW type weapons would be available so a couple of small squads should pack quite a punch. Maybe mix in some Liberation Urban terrorists, figures from the generic range & Balklans war types to keep them looking a bit irregular?

*US Spec ops guys -> Also check out some of the vietnam spec ops types available from various ranges for some slightly earlier types...

I've no idea about the cargo ships - maybe try to find a model trawler or some such from the radio controller ship market??!?

Thanks for the reply.

Possibly...was mostly thinking armed Africans, almost a militia type force.

Sounds good...probably shouldn't give them too much firepower.

I was thinking Tiger stripe camo and dark blue berets. The cubans sounds like a good idea too... :)

I was trying to figure out how to get that irregular look, and not the Russian army itself. I'll probably mix in some Balkan war guys with wool caps.

For the 'urban terrorist' range, IIRC they had some guys in suits - I was thinking you might be able to paint them as blacks, and use them as squad leaders and the like?

Tiger stripes and blue berets sound ace for the Special Forces!

Hey Willis

I have most of the stuff at the moment....still waiting on a ton of Liberation figs. I started the Membesian Government Chaffees and M60 and 2 more M-3 Halftracks....I did finish a government M-3 Halftrack and Saracen for the Guild plastic build. I also started a bunch of buildings, some of the Gamecraft Middle Eastern stuff along with some of TBA Scenics slum buildings.

Brad :)
