Howdy Folks, following a purchase of piles ofthe new Brittania-Inkerman Malayan Emergacny figures, I thought I'd get stuck into the period. I'll be posting up various games ideas, rules thoughts, useful links and hopefully some other stuff too! To get things started, here are the figures that I've purchased so far - figures are shown in the packs they came in, and if folks want more pics of anything, just shout. 2 figure packs were £2.40 & 3 figure packs £3.60 (£1.20 a figure - a pretty good price IMO) Communist Terrorists (CTs) With Shotguns Command With Rifles Bren team SMGs British Imperial Forces (Could be used as British, KAR, Rhodesians, Australians, etc) Command (guy with M2 has a map in his other hand) Bren Team Riflemen (SMLE Jungle carbine) - I got 2 packs... SMGs Native (Iban) trackers I'm currently working on a CT to see if my paint-scheme ideas will work, and also on the Iban trackers (Again, to see how my idea for the British 'Jungle Green' uniforms goes). The Iban underwent heavy tatooing, which I'm going to *try* to replicate in paint... here are some of the insperation pictures:

Great looking figures and wonderful paint job.
Presumably Vietnam scenery will double up.
I am looking forward to the development of this range of figures to cover the Aden Insurgency, although thiose would tempt me into the Malayan Emergency: what is the recommended reading for history and uniforms?

What rules are you thinking of using: perhaps Ambush Valley?

Thanks Chaps - the figures are big 28mm, with the CTs standing about 28mm to the top of the head head & the Brits about 31 mm.
I've actually finished the figures, bar their bases, so the final pictures should be up by the end of the week. Scenery is going to be Vietnam esque jungle, and I know Dave H was talking about doing a resin planter's bungalow.
Rules - I'm still not sure yet; I was toying with using a slightly modified version of Chris Peers' At Close Quarters as it already has randomised movement & restricted vision range. Ambush Valley is a possibility if that doesn't work out.
For recommended reading - there is a very good Osprey on the period, but it's currently OOP (but a preview is available on Google books with some of the colour plates) 'War of the running Dogs' by Noel Barber (IIRC) is a very good book covering the campaing in general and focusing on the actions of certain interesting characters. There are lots of useful webpages available as well, that cover lots of the background and personal reminissances. Other painting references can be found in most 'modern uniforms' type books...

I would be interested in hearing how your first game goes with At Close Quarters, as I have never played those rules.
Any tips on painting the figures would be appreciated. I would intend to use Vallejo Acrylics.
Do you intend to introduce any vehicles into your games?
Have you visted the Britains Small Wars site: it has useful info on this period. Also, there is the BBC DVD Empire Warriors which includes the Malayan Emergency and had original footage as well as interviews of those who fought on both sides.

Xander,
The figures look very well.
Please let us have a report of how your first game goes.
The sources you listed are very good: have you got the DVD Empire Warriors: I can thoroughly recommend it.
